Future Visits
Updates
We will regularly ask our clients to fill out a progress update. This form helps your therapist evaluate your progress, track patterns of symptoms, insure all problems are being fully addressed, and clarify your goals. This also gives you the opportunity to reflect on your progress along with setting new goals for yourself .
Secondly, insurance providers will often inquire as to the medical necessity of therapy. We use this information to help evaluate the necessity for continuing treatment. We will evaluate your complaints to determine if you are showing improvement.
To make the most effective use of this opportunity, please provide detailed information about problems and improvements. Especially useful are functional goals. "Reduce pain" is a noble aspiration, but knowing that someone could only climb a few steps last month, now is able to ascend two flights with some assistance, and wants to be able to scale three floors without using a railing is much more useful information in judging progress.
Helpful pieces of information include:
How long you can tolerate an activity (examples: "sit less than 10 minutes"; "read less than 20 minutes at a time.")
How far you can go (examples: "able to walk 100 yards"; "able to run 1 mile")
Specific activities you would like to do (examples: "lift my grandson"; "climb onto a horse")
Any activity you would like to do or do more of.
Appointment Times
We ask our clients to arrive a few minutes before their scheduled appointment time to allow for the completion of any administrative tasks before your appointment. Visits are typically scheduled at the top of each hour and intended to last 45 to 50 minutes.
Our staff makes every effort to be on time. We understand your time is valuable and respect that you have taken time out of your day to visit us. Occasionally, there are unforeseen problems that will delay us. We ask for your patience, we will do the best we can to accommodate you.
Homework and Exercises
The short time a client spends with us each week is only a small part of their rehabilitation program. Every client is given a home exercise and activity program designed to help them meet their health goals. These programs are individually designed to help each person improve.
A home program might include:
Stretching for a specific area or stretches adapted from yoga for more global effects
Muscle specific strengthening exercises with or without weights or exercise bands for added resistance
Functional strengthening to develop coordination between groups of muscles
Balance postural training
Self Mobilization exercises
Our individual treatment programs are intended to focus on specific problems. Please let us know if you have more comprehensive goals such as improving cardiovascular health, weight loss, or improving sports performance. We encourage all our clients to develop a health directed lifestyle and will give encouragement and input wherever needed. We will also happily collaborate with trainers, coaches, and other healthcare practitioners you are working with.
